As a patient with physical disabilities the feeling of safety and security in seemingly simple tasks such as getting in or out of bed can bring with it a range of fears and anxieties that many of us will never experience. The fear of falling and the fear of physical injury can create such levels of insecurity and heightened concern that fear is itself overwhelming. In situations where a patient is passive, unable to assist and is being transferred in a patient lifter, these fears are increased with the fear of being dropped and of slipping or falling out of the patient sling.
